Source: CDC’s Work to Support & Promote Breastfeeding
Breastfeeding is more than a personal choice—it’s a public health priority. The CDC has found that fewer than 1 in 4 babies in the U.S. are exclusively breastfed at 6 months, despite overwhelming evidence showing long-term health benefits for both infants and mothers.
Breastmilk lowers a baby’s risk for asthma, obesity, type 1 diabetes, and SIDS, and it also reduces a mom’s risk for high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and certain cancers. That’s why the CDC’s Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity is investing in programs to create breastfeeding-friendly environments in hospitals, workplaces, and communities.
